Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about Fenzly and how we protect your data.

Security

How does Fenzly encrypt my location? +

Fenzly uses the Signal protocol (Double Ratchet) to end-to-end encrypt your locations. Every location update is encrypted on your device, individually for each recipient, before it is ever sent.

The server only ever carries opaque encrypted data: it knows neither your coordinates, nor the names of your places, nor who is in your circles. Even we, who operate the service, cannot read your location.

Privacy

What does the Fenzly server know about me? +

As little as possible. Fenzly is built on a blind server model:

  • your GPS coordinates and place names are encrypted and never readable server-side;
  • your presence inside a zone is computed on your phone, never transmitted;
  • your address book and social graph stay on your device only.

The server essentially acts as an encrypted relay and router. Your data is hosted in Switzerland, compliant with GDPR and the Swiss FADP.
